Except for the fly....
...at the above mentioned lunch, we went to our new favorite lunch spot: Panera Bread. They have an Asian Sesame Salad that looked really quite tasty and, as often happens, Amanda and I both ordered it. To make a long story short, the salads came, they were huge and delicious, Noah charmed everyone in the restaurant, and as we were finishing the last crumbs, I happened to look down into my bowl...
...which is when I saw the dead fly swimming in the dressing.
Now, I'm a picky eater, on the best of days. I wish I liked fish, tomatoes and avocados. But I don't. And it's not the flavor - it's the texture of the food - I'm pretty squeamish when it comes to that. And fly definitely qualifies as a texture I'm not anxious to try.
I have never understood, really, when just the thought of something unpleasant causes someone to lose their lunch...I didn't ....but it was a pretty close call when I realized how close I came to nibbling on Musca domestica.
Now, I must say two things: 1) The manager was appropriately embarrassed, refunded my entire meal, gave both me and Amanda a ticket for a free meal, plus, he gave me, Amanda & Noah freshly baked cookies. (Which kinda doesn't jive with the whole "I ate a salad for lunch" motif, but it was considerate none the less.) 2) I have purchased the same salad since, and it was, thankfully, completely fly free.
I AM trying to lose weight, and I have plateaued recently....but spiking my food with insects, probably not the way to go.
